Halloween Post: The Teal Pumpkin Project

This is my favorite week because halloween is coming soon!!!!

Since we are having a bundle of joy coming soon, I wanted to support children with food allergies by being involved in the Teal Pumpkin Project. 

Since my energy level has been up and down, I spray painted it teal with a gold stem and printed out the flyer to announce that we have both candy and non-candy items for children.

I have to work tomorrow so I'm sad I won't be there to see the kids costume. Hopefully next year. 

Halloween Post: Spider egg sac

Halloween is my favorite holiday and this year's porch theme is Spiders!!! Last year I saw Martha Stewart's spider egg sac project and I was in love. It doesn't look as good as her's but it was fun to do! 
Tips: - We grabbed white stockings from Walmart. It was $1.97/pair in the girls section.  -Instead of using foam egg, I used baseballs because of the weight and it looks more stretchy with it. 

We also installed some moving objects and a scarecrow that makes scary noises and pops up when you walk into the porch. Unfortunately we had to turn it off because our FEDEX/UPS stopped placing our packages inside our porch and left it outside.  More pics of my front yard to come soon!

EVERYTHING IS AWESOME - Heart Shaped Sushi bonding time

To celebrate our 1st valentine's  - as a married couple who is finally living together under one roof no longer long distance love -  YAY day we stayed in and decided to make a weekend out of it.  Friday Night  We DIY Sushi

Tried to be all romantic and made some heart shape sushi. It's my first time soooo..not perfect but he got the message.  Saturday Watched THE LEGO MOVIE.  We may have been there during matinee hour with a room full of ages 4+ but didn't care because it was so awesomely HILARIOUS. During the film we realized the villain Lord Business was someone we both knew- THE MISTER!!!!! If you know the Mister and see how they describe Lord Business in the movie: A tyrant that likes to separate things and have a place for everything.... THAT'S HIM!

Baby Shower DIY: Owl Theme

As promised here are the goodies that her best friends and I concocted for my sister's baby shower! The theme was owls. At first, I had no clue why she was obsessed with them but after working with everything, Owls can be PRETTY CUTE!

Homemade Watermelon Lemonade 50/50 Punch with ginger ale

This was a hit! We used real watermelon and store bought lemonade and blended them together. Then added Gingle Ale to taste. It is pretty easy to do and was very refreshing.

From afar you couldn't tell which was the real cake  (L) versus the diaper cake (R). My aunt did an amazing job making the diaper cake!

and I wasn't sure if I should post my version of an owl cake pop but here it is...

WARNING: IF YOU OWN ANY PET CHICKENS, COVER THEIR EYES. 

It is my first time making any sort of creative cake pop so of course the first times always the most hardest -slash- ugliest. I mean COME ON, look at the cake pop on the right, it looks like the brain exploded.

P.S.

Everyone's been asking us when we are going to have kids and my honest to god answer is... I have no FREAKING CLUE. I hope not soon. SO STOP ASKING ME! 

I find that to be the most annoying question you can ever ask a married couple especially newly weds because general opinion of people getting married is to have kids. BUT I am in the group where we want to be married because we want to be committed, not to procreate.

ok- I am no longer venting.  BUT.... now it JUST got awkward....

HAPPY HALLOWEEN: Black Widow outfit DIY

Since Halloween is on a Thursday this year we celebrated early this past weekend. The theme was Superheros. I have to admit it was pretty damn cool. While we were all waiting in the dining room for the rest of the group, it looked like a crossover episode with all the heroes;  discussing how to save the world over dinner.

I chose to be Black Widow this year because I thought all black leather would be kicka$$! That and my husband is Captain America and if you are a Marvel nerd you know that Black Widow and Captain America will have a somewhat complex relationship.

Here are my inspirational photos

 It was very simple to do. All you need is:

Black Jumpsuit: Could use black leather pants/leggings with leather jacket.
Bullets: For bracelets and belt. Spray paint this black.
Leather Biker gloves
S.H.I.E.L.D patches: made out of foam and felt. Taped them onto suit.
Black Belt : Use old one and taped foam cutout onto belt.

 This took the longest time because I had to make sure it was cut correctly and looked equal.

Using foam I cut out the black widow symbol and taped it onto an old belt. 

These were my bullets- post black spray paint and used as part of my bracelet. 

Not sure if you can even see it but I even dyed my hair red for Halloween. I wish it came out more red! This is how intense I can be with Halloween. LOVE IT!

I just wish I was young enough to get some free candy!!!!

Our Wedding: Photobooth Props DIY

This is something I really wanted to post about because EVERYONE loves the photobooth! Renting photobooths can be pricey but there are so many alternatives to the regular booth box. It can be as simple as using bed sheets as a backdrop or leftover tinsel from the holidays or even streamers.  
For more fun, you can add props! We made some superhero masks because the hubby LOVES Marvel. 

To add a girly touch I made Hello Kitty bows, lips, and mustaches.

Making your own props saves money from renting/buying them and it was convenient for us because we were able to personalized it into our 'Superhero theme'.  This project was about 2 days worth of time but all you need is:  Foam Sheets 6x9 (we bought a pack of various colors) 2.99 Wood Dowels (15pc/pack)  ~$2-3 Dry Eraser 2 Sheets 5.99 for speech bubbles Exacto Knife Hot glue gun + glue sticks Total spent: ~$10.00

Tips: 1. I found shapes of masks online so I was able to use it as a frame for making sure I cut out the placement of the eyes correctly (I always mess up on that part! Links below).  2. To save time, print out the masks on regular paper using color ink and then paste it on the foam using it as support. (ex: Hello Kitty and Batman masks) 3. It can also be counted as a party favor because guests get to bring home a memento.  Photo booths can be incorporated into any event from birthdays to holiday parties to weddings. This is an interactive treat for ALL guests, young and old. I seriously cracked up when I saw photos of my grandma having a ball with the bright red boa and batman mask!

Tip #5 If you wanted to use words as props instead of masks, another suggestion is to make speech bubbles so friends can write special messages or whatever to EXPRESS THEMSELVES! And if you can read their bubbles...our friends expressed themselves VERY clearly!

Our Wedding: DIY Bathroom Basket

Since we had some time I thought it would be a nice thing to make for the guests in case they needed to pamper themselves in the restroom. We made a sign for each basket so the guests would know it was made for them.  Women's Basket: "Stay Sexy!" I bought the black basket at Goodwill for $5 and still use it in our home.  Men's Basket: "Stay Classy!" I use a leftover box I had at home, wrapped it with purple paper and done. 

Baskets had: - Pads/Tampons (Women's only) - Hair pins and hair bands ( Women's only) - Qtips - First Aid Kit - Hairspray  - Body Lotion  - Bathroom Spray - Lint Roller - Altoids (fresh breath) - Ibuprofen ( if the music was too loud) I found this project to be pretty quick and very affordable especially since many of the items you have in your bathroom.  Just a warning:  DO NOT put anything in the basket or out at your wedding you are NOT prepared to lose.  Some more ideas:

Our Wedding: Doilie Envelopes

Envelopes wasn't as bad as I thought. Yep- we made our own envelopes out of dollies. This is what happens when I start pinning! I was never really a lace lover but once he put a ring on it, I've been in love with lace! Since my wedding dress was super lacey I thought adding dollies to the invite could incorporate that.

To add some support we bought wax paper (can be found at Michaels and CVS!) as an inner liner and spray painted it with purple that I had leftover from another project. We went Jackson Pollock on that!

Becky (MOH) made a cardboard cutout to construct the dollies into envelopes. You can either leave it alone so it opens completely but we sprayed it with adhesive spray (had no clue something like this existed- SUPER COOL!!!!) so it stays in envelope shape.

Since these were too fragile to mail out, we bought outer envelopes on Amazon. I think this is a great idea if you love lace and doilies. Spray painting can be messy but I really love how the color pops and each and everyone's envelopes are unique! All made with lots of love <3
